Why did the Chamber create The Online Video Meet the Candidates Event for the seats of Dickson and Ryan?
  • Access to candidates and getting your questions heard – and answered – is always an issue as election campaigns get into gear.
  • This online, pre-recorded option is one way to enable access; and to assist the views of all candidates who chose to participate, to be heard.
  • The Chamber is acting as a conduit to assist community to hear, see and access their (potential) representatives – a core value of The Hills and Districts Chamber of Commerce Inc.
Are the videos edited by the Chamber?

The videos are unedited, and posted as received, with respect to the spirit of Chamber’s Code of Conduct*.

Where did the questions come from?
  • We asked members of the Chamber of Commerce and community members to put forward questions that identified major themes affecting voters in The Hills Districts. These were collated as 6 questions addressing 6 main themes.
How does the process work?
  • Candidates were invited to answer those questions on a pre-recorded video, with their unedited* answers going online on the Chamber website.
  • All known candidates received the questions at the same time.
  • A small window of time was allocated to answer and supply their video.
  • Candidates chose how they used their space and time.
  • Candidates were requested to provide concise, short responses.
Why is the Chamber of Commerce asking these questions?
  • Our volunteer Meet The Candidates Committee developed this process to maximise access to candidates and their views.
  • One of the core missions of The Hills and Districts Chamber of Commerce Inc. is to support businesses and the community by developing apolitical, positive relationships and communications with all levels of government.
