Flood Emergency Relief

1 March 2022

With the team at Mitchelton Football Club

Over the last couple of days I’ve been visiting flood affected areas across the electorate. Some areas have been affected far worse than any previous flood in living memory.

Unfortunately, a number of homes close to creeks have been inundated with flood waters. Some local small businesses were hit very hard. The reports of how quickly the water rose are incredible.

The scene at Mitchelton Football Club is devastating … but I know the Mitchie spirit will come to the fore as they rebuild.

If you are personally affected by the Queensland floods, the Australian and Queensland Governments have announced funding for those impacted.  The details of these are as follows:

The Disaster Recovery Allowance are for people who’ve lost income due to the South East QLD floods.

The Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment is a lump sum payment of:

  • $1,000 for eligible adults
  • $400 for each eligible child under the age of 16

You can claim this payment if you’ve been seriously affected as a direct result of the floods. For example:

  • your home has been severely damaged or destroyed
  • you’ve been seriously injured

You can claim Disaster Recovery Allowance for up to 13 weeks, starting from the date you lost income. Claims open Tuesday 1 March 2022.
