Learn more about the services the the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT) and the Chamber of Commerce & Industry Queensland (CCIQ) can do for your business and The Hills Chamber.  Presentations will be given by:

Roanna Kane, Program Manager, Metropolitan Region, Department of Employment, Small Business and Training. (DESBT)

Roanna has an extensive background in the department working across all portfolios in Central Office and Regional services since 1992. She has been engaging with businesses across the region since 2007 when she joined the Regional services team covering the areas of Brisbane and Ipswich.

Speaking about: Connecting businesses with DESBT regional services. Chamber Connect is a government support service providing chamber members with a direct connection to Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT) programs and services.  Metropolitan region is supporting businesses in Brisbane and Ipswich to start, grow, prosper and employ through a range of support programs, including mentoring and business advice, grants, fee on-line training and workshops.

Paul Garcia, Relationship Manager | Campaigns and Marketing, Chamber of Commerce & Industry Queensland

After a 34-year career with a global IT Solutions company, Paul joined CCIQ in Nov 2019 in the newly created role of Relationship Manager. The Chamber of Commerce & Industry Queensland is the peak body for Chambers in Queensland. Paul now collaborates with over 114 Chambers of Commerce throughout Queensland and has a passion to see small businesses not just survive but thrive through engagement with their local Chambers.

Speaking about: CCIQ is the oldest Chamber of Commerce in Qld dating back to pre-federation days. Today, thru the Chambers of Commerce, it rallies businesses all over Qld in support of Advocacy at all levels of govt.  Paul will give an overview of the organisation and how CCIQ works with the Hills CoC to support and help advocate for change.

Michael O’Brien Senior IR Specialist, Chamber of Commerce & Industry Queensland (CCIQ)

Michael  – Michael O’Brien is an experienced Industrial Relations advisor skilled in case management, conciliation, mediation, investigations and EA negotiations. He has over 15 years of experience partnering with staff and managers at all levels through strategic and operational HR expertise. Michael also has been accredited under the National Mediator Accreditation System (NMAS) with a Bachelor of Business Administration, majoring in Human Resource Management.

Michael’s passion is to get to the heart of issues and work with people to create positive outcomes. With his considerable expertise, you can trust he will be an effective facilitator and advisor for your business when a situation of difference arises.

Speaking about: HR space currently being offered by the Qld govt to small business.
