The Pros and Cons of Google My Business

The Pros and Cons of Google My Business
12 November 2021

More than just another free business listing, Google My Business (GMB) allows you to control how your business appears on Google Search and Google Maps.

Search on just about anything today and Google will serve you its own suggestions and map at the top, or very near the top, of the search result.

Think back to the last time you Googled a local business…which business did you click on, call, or visit first?

Was it the business with zero reviews and low-mid level star rating?

Or was it the business with a bucket load of 4 and 5 star reviews and in-depth reviews written by raving fans?

Imagine the power you would have over your competitors if you too had a bucket load of top-notch reviews.

You can leave it to the Google Gods and just hope that your customers remember the great experience you gave them and take themselves off to leave you a review…or you can take control.

So what are the Pros and Cons, you ask?  Read on my friend!

Pros of Google My Business

  1. Receive, and respond, to reviews left by your customers. Show that you are active and customer centric.
  2. Take bookings right from your GOOGLE MY BUSINESS listing. Make it super easy for folks to do business with you.
  3. Keep your customers up to date. Share more than just your address, website, and phone number; give your customers what they crave by way of photos, new product offerings, your latest menu and opening hours.
  4. Go all in with the sharing philosophy and share Google Posts about your business or industry to show that you truly do know what you’re talking about.

Cons of Google My Business

  1. Give me a minute.
  2. I’m still thinking.
  3. Nope, I’ve got nothing!

In full disclosure, there is a time investment in rocking GMB.  There is the initial set-up process to take care of and then to truly capitalize a small regular investment of time will bring you the best results.

Another way to absolutely level up is to instigate an ongoing proactive customer review program.

I don’t see this time investment as a con though.  Like all of the good things in life, a little nurturing each day brings dividends in the long term.

So, what’s next?

Go claim your Google My Business listing here and begin your journey to GMB stardom.
